Among the top 10 automotive companies, Tesla has emerged as the most mentioned automotive company on EV topic, with more than 50% share of social media conversations. The company saw big spike in conversations in beginning of the year when it reported record high sales for electric vehicles in fourth quarter beating the sales of previous quarter.  

Other key insights in the report include:

  • Toyota Motor emerged as the next most mentioned company among EV discussions, followed by Porsche AG and Rivian Automotive
  • Toyota saw 30% decline in EV-related conversations in Q1 2022 over Q4 2021. In Q1 2022, the conversations related to the company spiked during the month of January when two giants, Volkswagen AG and Toyota Motor, laid out a $170 billion worth of investments into electric vehicle segment to beat Tesla in the EV segment
  • Rivian Automotive also saw 45% decline in EV-related conversations in Q1 2022 over Q4 2021, which is highest among the group. In Q1, Rivian conversations were led by company’s decision to raise EV prices by 20% including its R1T truck and R1S SUV and that the new prices would apply to nearly all pre orders, inviting outrage from its customers
  • Other companies were General Motors, Hyundai Motor, Nissan Motor, Ford Motor, Honda Motor and Mercedes Benz (former Dialmer AG)
