EDPR enters 2 PPAs for 214 MW AC solar capacity; Invenergy’s 300 MW solar and storage project approved in Wisconsin; SEIA welcomes Massachusetts climate legislation.

PPAs for EDPR’s solar project: EDP Renováveis (EDPR) has announced securing 2 long term power purchase agreements (PPA) for 216 MW AC solar power capacity out of 240 MW AC solar park in Texas, US without identifying the offtakers. The project is likely to enter commercial operations in late 2023 when the PPAs will come into effect. In a short notification, EDPR said the execution of the 2 PPAs, the company now has 3.7 GW of secured capacity in solar and an overall renewables’ secured capacity of 8.7 GW for 2021-25.

Invenergy’s solar & storage project approved: Invenergy’s 300 MW solar and 165 MW battery storage project has secured a green signal from the Wisconsin Public Service Commission (WPSC) in the US. Local media reported the project to be the largest renewable energy plant in the US state and will be located in Dane County. The Koshkonong Solar Energy Center, despite some opposition from neighboring residents, found favor with the commission. Local environmental consultant Clean Wisconsin said the project will be able to reduce CO2 emissions by 15 to 20 million tons through its life.

SEIA welcomes Massachusetts climate bill: The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) calls the climate legislation introduced by the Massachusetts Senate as an encouraging first step for climate in the state. SEIA’s Senior Director of State Affairs, Northeast, David Gahl said, “In addition to expanded exemptions to the state’s solar net metering cap, the bill requires the Department of Energy Resources (DOER) to recommend the design of a successor to the current SMART program with compensation based on the immense value that solar brings to the electric grid.”
