In 2020, the total number of searches for festival outfits in the US was between 0–50 according to the search interest analysis. Toward the end of the year, those searches barely hit 20. As things improved in 2021, searches grew up to the 50s and plateaued for a while before skyrocketing in the early months of 2022.

The Google Trends chart shows the ever-growing interest of young people in the US for fashionable festival outfits. This could also be attributed to a new wave of underlying events or predominant factors that have caused a stir in the apparel industry.

WGSN looks at this analysis through the lens of what words people associate themselves with the most when coupled with youth brands. More than 40% of respondents identified with youthful and on-trend words, which is expected. But it has taken a wild turn as comfortability and quality fall short on the chart by 2 ppt YoY and 3 ppt YoY respectively.

Fashion and innovation in the clothing industry has been seeing an increase in more modern, hip styles which appeal to younger consumers in the industry. Comfort and quality have taken a dive toward the deep end as younger individuals are more fashion-inclined and don’t concern themselves too much with attributes like comfort and quality.

All these factors have also seen a 1 ppt increase YoY. The bar chart, however, shows the main barriers that prevent young consumers from either making any purchases or stop them from procuring as much material as they want.
