BASF enters VPPAs for 250 MW RE; Revolve’s 250 MW solar & storage project moves for further processing with BLM approval; EDPR has secured PPA for 200 MW AC PV; MNS to move ahead with 4.86 MW community solar plant in Canada; TurningPoint Energy building 12 community solar facilities in Delaware.

BASF goes for VPPA in US: The American presence of German chemicals group BASF has entered virtual power purchase agreements (VPPA) for 250 MW solar and wind power capacity. These deals are designed to offset carbon intensive grid supplied electricity being used by BASF at more than 20 of its manufacturing sites across the US. It will entail the purchase of over 660,000 MWh electricity annually which will come from 100 MW solar from Dawn Solar, and 150 MW renewable energy capacity will be added through transactions with EDF Energy Services. It will push up the company’s renewable energy share in its total electricity consumption in North America to more than 25%.

BLM clears 250 MW solar & storage plant: The US Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has given its approval to the 250 MW Parker Solar and Storage Project of Canada’s Revolve Renewable Power Corp to go in for further processing. The project is proposed to be located in Arizona’s La Paz County. Having secured the right of way/variance land, Revolve’s subsidiary Revolve Parker Solar LLC will now undertake environmental review of the facility, and continue with the interconnection study process by the Western Area Power Administration.

EDPR’s 200 MW AC solar PPA: EDP Renewables (EDPR) has secured a long term solar PPA with an unidentified offtaker for 200 MW AC solar capacity in the US. The project is identified as being located in California and accompanied by 150 MW storage capacity. It is scheduled to enter commercial operations in 2024. With this new project, EDPR has now 10.8 GW secured out of the 20 GW target additions for 2021-25 announced in EDPR Capital Markets Day in February 2021.

4.86 MW community solar project in Alberta: Not-for-profit society Metis Nation of Alberta (MNA) in Canada has announced plans to construct a 4.86 MW community solar power plant in the region’s Smoky Lake County. Through a competitive process, local utility ATCO was selected to construct the project as part of the MNA Climate Change Action Plan. Construction is planned to begin in Summer 2022 and come online in Spring 2023. Power generated is expected to lower MNA’s GHG emissions.

TurningPoint Energy expands to Delaware: TurningPoint Energy is expanding into the State of Delaware in the US as it develops 12 community solar projects here. It is investing over $100 million to realize these projects for which it is engaging in talks with landowners interested in leasing or selling their property for solar development, as well as with residential customers interested in participating in solar projects and communities seeking to procure solar energy.
