  • Solitek plans to build a solar PV module factory in Italy with 600 MW annual capacity
  • It will be built in Benevento region with nearly €50 million investment and come online in Q2/2024
  • In future, it may add domestic storage systems production with 1 GWh/year capacity

Lithuanian based solar modules manufacturer Solitek has picked Benevento, Italy for a new 600 MW solar PV panel production factory expanding its geographic footprint in manufacturing beyond Lithuania where it operates 180 MW module line capacity which it aims to increase to 250 MW in 2023.

While the company was sparse in details while confirming the decision on its LinkedIn account, the team said it expects an investment of nearly €50 million to bring the module fab online.

However, local media reports claim Solitek will start rolling out solar modules from Q2/2024, targeting the agrivoltaic segment. Later it will look at expanding the local production to also include domestic storage systems with 1 GWh/year capacity. Mayor of Benevento Clemente Mastella was quoted as saying the Ponte Valentino located Solitek fab will create employment for over 300 people.

TaiyangNews reached out to Solitek to seek more details of their Italian production plans, but till the time of this news being published, we had not heard back.

Back in 2022, Solitek had said it planned to launch a 600 MW line for module production in Q4/2023. In January 2023, it secured an $8 million credit line from the State Bank of Taiwan to ‘facilitate the conditions for SoliTek to purchase raw materials from Taiwanese partners for the solar modules produced in Lithuania – it will reduce the terms of purchasing raw materials and increase the volume of transactions’.

Italy is attracting some major solar PV manufacturing interest in Europe. After Enel Green Power said it will expand its 200 MW heterojunction module fab in Catania to 3 GW annually, FuturaSun aid it will establish a 2 GW high efficiency solar module Gigafactory in the country.

As part of European Union (EU) funded SUPER PV project, SoliTek participated in TaiyangNews’ What’s Hot in European Solar R&D Conference in June 2021.
