BLG Logistics and Mercedes-Benz to install Germany’s ‘largest’ solar plant for industrial set up; Profine Energy provides update on Bulgarian floating PV project; Sonnedix & Equinix sign PPA for 150 MW in Spain; Ethical Power building 45 MW for Conrad Energy in the UK.

9.3 MW rooftop PV system in Germany: Germany based seaport and logistics company BLG Logistics Group is getting what it says will be the largest contiguous rooftop solar system installed on an industrial property in Germany. Panels will be installed on its new C3 Bremen logistics facility in Free Hanseatic City that it recently inaugurated with automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz. Solar project will have around 23,000 modules and 52 inverters installed on 80,000 sq. mtr. space that will generate around 8.4 million kWh annually. Once the solar project is online, it will supply the site with solar power.

“Large-scale and holistic projects like this are exactly what we need to achieve our climate goals and lead Germany to greenhouse gas neutrality. A strong project that shows how future-oriented business and climate protection go hand in hand,” said Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister of Economics and Climate Protection Robert Habeck on the occasion.

Study on Bulgarian floating solar project: Profine Energy, a joint venture between Germany’s Profine Group and Wirth Gruppe, is reported by local media to have completed phase I of an economic and technical assessment for a floating solar project in Bulgaria. Results are said to be positive. The project is proposed to come up on Ogosta dam’s reservoir. Back in 2022, the company had proposed the Bulgarian government its plans to construct a floating solar plant with 500 MW to 1.5 GW capacity. The €1 billion investment expected by the company on the project also includes maintenance and security of the dam and the solar power plant.

PPA for 150 in Spain: Spain’s Sonnedix has entered a 10-year pay-as-produced power purchase agreement (PPA) with digital infrastructure company Equinix that operates more than 240 data centers across 32 nations. Power will be supplied from 3 solar plants with a combined 150 MW capacity in Castilla-La Mancha. All the facilities will be commissioned by 2024-end when these will generate 240,000 MWh green electricity and Guarantees of Origin annually.

45 MW solar plant under construction in UK: EPC contractor Ethical Power has started constructing 45 MW Larport Solar Farm in UK’s Herefordshire. The project is developed and owned by Conrad Energy. It will be spread across 120 acres and will have a lifespan of 40 years once it comes online in 2024. The project is expected to generate close to 44,000 MWh annually. BNP Paribas has signed up to receive power from the project under an offtake agreement with Conrad Energy.
