A customs exam fee is incurred in case a shipment is held up for a customs exam. It is the liability of any importers for any customs fees associated with shipments carried into the U.S.. Hence the importer will be charged for the related customs exam fee, which may range from $80 to more than $1,000 depending on the type of examination done.
