Bobtail Fee

A bobtail fee, also known as a drop fee, is incurred whenever a drop happens. A drop is a type of full container load (FCL) shipment truck delivery, in which the driver drops the FCL container to the warehouse and returns later for the empty container pickup, often within 48 hours. It is named after the phrase “bobtail,” which is widely used in the U.S.  to describe a truck or tractor without a trailer. The bobtail fee is charged in consideration of the additional trip made by the trucker.
